Correction:

On pages 284-86 and 320 of the original hardcover edition of Soundings, the author referred to a couple close to Marie Tharp. That discussion included an erroneous accusation of wrongdoing and characterization of the couple's relationship with Marie and their involvement with the events immediately preceding her final illness and death. After careful consideration of additional information provided by the couple, the author and her publisher have removed the discussion from all future editions of Soundings.
